Seriously, though, never skimp on RAM, because it's a serious usable life-time extender. My current desktop machine has barely been upgraded for more than 5 years, yet the only bottleneck I consistently notice these days is the (by todays standards) low amount of RAM (256 MB). This was good enough 5 years ago, but only just acceptable now. But now it's harder to find compatible RAM, and it doesn't feel worth it to upgrade this late (I suspect some critical hardware will fail within the next couple of years). |
