it usually runs out faster than you think. New or updated applications that demand more RAM, after a while you find yourself using more applications at the same time, much RAM is always good for multimedia.
If you are moving many or big files on the same hard disk, you might find it very useful to have a RAM disk (some programs do this, but you could also simply use a USB stick for that): copy files to that place first, copy to new place on hard disk and then erase from old place (in this order, do not erase before - if a system crash occurs, the RAM disk's content is lost). It's faster because it lets the hard disk head read/write in one flush so it doesn't need to repeatedly switch between read/write positions and loose time this way. |
