Because one does not fear what one respects. ANd the tremor of terror causes one to have bad aim. And kill the man quick and sure. Then he won't pretend to be dead and shoot you. And do kill. I have learned that imprisonment by allies causes dark spots to appear on their reputation. Which makes them hard to respect.
