I've helped enough kids with their homework to know that anyone, barring real stupidity or learning disability, can be taught to read...but increasingly aren't. It's a matter of discipline, which is largely lacking in schools. Logic is introducing mental discipline. If they can't even enforce the "sit down and shut up" style discipline, the mental kind comes even harder.
It's kind of like saying "teach calculus" when the kids don't know arithmatic. Worthy studies, but have to get the fundamentals down first. Assuming the teachers can even teach logic. I've been lambasted for making fun of ed majors before, but there's a basis behind the poor image. |
