| I do think we should force everyone that goes through government funded public education to learn how to think logically and critically, at every level of education, pre-k, elementary, high school, and state-run colleges and universities. Requiring students to study and pass formal logic courses will, in addition to helping them understand their world, directly effect their math and language literacy levels, thereby increasing the quality of the education they retain. Many of society's ailments would be eased if those involved had a better understanding of logic and critical thinking.
Besides which, advertising would have to become less intellectually insulting to remain as effective. You know, like actually tell the customer something about the product rather than just a bunch of hype. I personally think it would be worth it to force everyone else to take years of classes just so I don't see so many stupid, uninformative advertisements. :-D
Really, though, it seems to me that the point of mandatory attendance of publicly funded education that has curriculum requirements is to give the students the skills they need to be productive citizens, for the benefit of the country. Why should the study of logic not be in the required curriculum? It would truly be in the best interest of both the nation and the individual. |
