We all have our own personal blind spots/prejudices in that regard. Seeking an education focusing on critical thinking implies that you are going to be evaluated on those abilities at some point. And if your hot buttons conflict with your teachers', you're not going to be evaluated very fairly.

Making the attempt at teaching critical thinking would be nice, but you're not going to get that in a government run school because our politicians prefer to rule sheep. And, as already mentioned elsewhere, there's loads of people who do not want to learn it anyway. The attempt at least would show people the basics in how someone's trying to snow them in an argument, though.
