Our IT folk have to lock down every one of our routers and switches as they get it.

As the manufacturer doesn't know how/where it's going to be used, selling it open makes far more sense than pre-locking it down, *ESP* for a corporate environment (barring pre-arranged agreements, of course).

Locking down a corporate system is just silly, as the company will likely blow it away to install their own passwords, and access controls anyway.

Only the home market is even viable for pre-locked down systems, and honestly, most end-users are too stupid to see why it's a good thing. they'd simply switch to another manufacturer who DIDN'T do it, so they could just USE the item and not have to fiddle with it.
