to be able to implement it, by simply following the instructions.

I do agree that in the past manuals have been very obfusticated, but as more and more end-users have gotten home wifi systems, the manuals have definitely become easier.

Some *do* have the option to install security, if people ever hit the website for the router, as a base question.

But most people simply plug it in, turn it on, start using it. Many never even connect to 192.168.0.1.

You can't turn security on by default, because it wouldn't serve any purpose. The folk who cannot/won't follow direction couldn't ever connect to their router then, and if you just used a default password, it eliminates purpose of security anyway, as anyone can look up the default password online.
