Should those who slurp WiFi be jailed? by Illiad2007-10-08 11:34:07
  No by madnessasap 2007-10-08 12:16:45
I personally secure my network with WPA-PSK after a particular incident ( more about that in a minute. ) Which I guess may be a bit hypocritical of me since I use other people unsecured wireless networks all the time, usually from my chemistry class where the schools wireless network doesn't seem to reach. I don't do any large downloads/uploads, go snooping around, do illegal things or transmit personal information, I usually just use it to look up things that relate to that particular class.

Now as for my own network, One day I happened to be using my computer at my home alone when the 802.11 light on my router began to flash and I knew that all the other wireless devices in my house were off at the time. Being a nerd I quickly went to my routers status and found that it was no computer of mine using my network, upon discovering this I fired up Cain and Wireshark and began snooping the data. What I found is the reason I make sure I never send personal info over a wireless connection, the lady was using my network to go job hunting through several resume sites and company web pages. I managed to harvest her user name and passwords to these sites and using this information get access to her resume which as you can guess contained her personal information as well as putting me in a position where I could do plenty of damage to her life. Fortunately for her I was a good nerd and didn't do anything bad.
