A Native guy I have known for years (Canadian aboriginal, with a degree in social work) told me a story about "native crabs".
Three guys are on the beach catching crabs. One carries a bucket on a pole, one catches the crabs and puts them in the bucket and the third walks alongside the bucket and keeps the crabs from crawling out of the bucket.
They come across two guys catching crabs.
The obvious question, of course, is why these two guys don't need a third partner to keep the crabs from escaping.
The two answer that the secret is to only catch native crabs. That way, if one tries to escape, the others drag it back into the bucket.
My friend has real problems with some of his old buddies back on the reserve (in Vancouver Island). He has a degree, a good job and lives in the big city, so he has sold out. |
