It is not too difficult to arrange for data encryption such that the sensitive contents of a storage medium are hidden from view (and detection). See, for instance, Truecrypt.
I would assume that the really dangerous people with data to conceal would know about this, and that only the doofi like pedophiles are dumb enough not to know about proper security precautions.
I installed Truecrypt on my external drive and played around with it for a while. Unfortunately, my life is so boring that I have nothing worth hiding :)
