Woke up this past Monday with fever of 102 - assumed that I had a lightweight cold or flu, so I medicated myself with Tylenol and stayed away from the office.
I was feeling slightly better on Tuesday so I went into work, worked the whole day, still popping tylenol like candy.
Wednesday, I started noticing swelling, bloating, gassiness and PAIN! from my lower abdomen and right-side groin (where the lymph nodes are). I go to work, but am forced to go home at noon because I feel so lousy.
Yesterday, I stay at home, pop one of the standard-strength vicodin and call the doctor. He rearranges his schedule and sees me around 11 AM. I pop a vicodin just before I leave (around 10:30) He notices that the area on my groin that is VERY painful is also bright red. He diagnoses it as celulitis - an infection of the layer of tissue in between the muscle tissue and the muscles below. He prescribes two antibiotics and asks me to get a CT scan, which I do at the hospital at which he practices. I come home at about 4:30 (d4ed hospital was slow as molasses in Minnesota in January). When I get home, I pop another vicodin, wait for it to kick in, and then go get the scripts filled.
This morning, I wake to a similar level of pain and immediately hobble over to the other bathroom and pop a vicodin. I'll be staying home today too, hoping that these drugs kick in quickly.
I don't take vicodin often, but when I need to, it is a heavenly godsend. |
