I really like those old Compaq desktop systems for that. The gi-normous heat sink on the slot-1 CPU means there's only the PS fan to deal with. Shame about the limited # of mounting points for HDDs though. But you've probably got me beat agewise. Heck, my first "PC" was a Radio Shack TRS-80 Pocket Computer. (which broke and was replaced by a PC-2)
