I think it exists with or without man, but with man on the scene, he had to figure out some way to measure it to squeeze as much work as possible out of the commoners. The day was divided into 24 hours, which seems like such an arbitrary number. What if I want my day to contain 26 hours? What if I want an amplifier that goes up to eleven?
And what about "Daylight Savings Time"? Why shift time during those few months? Is that done so a repair crew can come in to fix the time track, like when they shift the lanes of traffic around the spot where they're re-surfacing it yet again, but the road in your neighborhood is still full of pot holes, like the universe is full of black holes that wreak havoc on time machines? I just had the suspension (of disbelief) serviced on mine, and it's already out of alignment again. |
