If you're overly concerned about disk space, the sound can suffer IF it's on high end speakers (unless you really chap out when you rip the MP3). 99% of us, the majority of the time, are listening on pretty mediocre equipment. It's not going to make a difference anyway. Notice that if we follow what the "industry experts" say, we'd be back to using methods that don't facilitate "sharing" as much.
