And yes, the Kyoto protocol does address countries for whom "land-use change and forestry constituted a net source of greenhouse gas emissions" (Art.3 § 7), which I read to mean "thou shalt not burn thy forests" in legalspeak.

A little (non) sequitur factoid: mom and I saw a hummingbird today in the garden.
