This way, I don't have to remember funny codes, but can tell what character I want by pressing <compose> + " followed by A gives you an A with two dots Ä. Similar for a ' and e => é ... and so on. Take compose and a punctuation mark plus a character and (if it exists) it will give you the mangled character for foreign languages.

ø (/ and o), ç (, and c), ñ (~ and n) ... I bet there are tons more. Just no °
