1) hunting: Good ballistics program backed up by field confirmation should suffice. The software I have has the usual inputs as well as target radius. So it will tell me the effective arc for a given target. Say, 8" for a Deer. From a bench, I can do that easy out to 200m. I've decided to stay 100m and under this year. I want to KNOW my hit is good and humane.
Since this rifle is suited to stand hunting, I should be able to sling up for the shot. Never can depend on that but I intend to give myself the best advantages possible. So, I need a sling that can be used for that purpose.
2) paper and steel at range. No need to speed sling here, I'll have time and the target isn't running away. At leas not at first. More equipment is needed for the tactical play.
The classic rifleman's sling seems to be the king here.
My query is if I can get by with a single sling? It should be good for hunting and acceptable for target work. I'll probably end up with a rifleman's sling eventually ;-) But it may come on a gun in a larger caliber.
The rifle is a synthetic stock Winchester 70 kit gun. It has a Simmons 3-14x scope and the barrel is NOT free floated IIRC. It has 2 mount points and I don't see the need to add a third. So, it's Cheapie sling, Safari Ching Sling, Rifleman's sling, or other... |
