Personally I'd try to keep my shots inside of 300 yards when hunting. I am assuming you have a standard model 70 with a standard weight barrel, possibly a walnut stock and few, if any frills.

So long as your barrel is free-floated a hasty sling will be your fastest method of locking in. If you have time a bipod or Stoney Point Steady Stix are even better.

When shooting at long distances you have to be able to account for range, angle of shot, wind, speed the target is travelling, angle the target is travelling, temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, the clothing you are wearing etc. in a few seconds. If you can't, determine maximum point blank range for your gun/load and learn to shoot really well inside that envelope. For hunting purposes shooting inside of MPBR is the most ethical,
