First, it doesn't appear that the police gave the occupants any opportunity to open the door before busting it down. At least, that is the conclusion I come to from the description of cops pointing guns at everyone. I don't know how easy it is to get no-knock warrants, but IMO it should only happen after a bit more checking - not just on the word of a snitch.
Second, the apology coming eight months later, and somewhat superficial at that. But that may be because of the litiginous nature of society. It is possible that it is police SOP never to apologize, in case this is taken as an admission of guilt in a civil suit.
Either way, this may point towards the entire legal system being responsible for this sad incidence - not just the police, but the court system as well. There is definitely room for improvement. |
