about 30 years ago there was a corner grocer that went bankrupt... The bank came in an put locks on the doors. The whole thing was in litigation for about a year. About 2 months after it closed the power was turned off.... They had a full butcher shop that was always fully stocked, my grandpa told me that they usually had 2-3 full sides of beef in the freezer. plus whatever was in the counter (remember this was an old fashioned meat shop) When they finally settled the ownership and started to get it ready to sell they had to bring in a hazmat team to clean it out. My grandpa said that when they opened the freezer you could SEE the gasses/stench. I remember smelling it at their house about a block away. It was enough to make me feel ill, and this was about 2 days after they opened it.
