It contains approximately the same amount for a single serving (it depends on how it is brewed). But espresso is much more concentrated. So a doppio espresso is twice the caffeine in a cup half the size of a regular small cup, or a quarter of the size of an 8oz cup. It's true that espresso roasts tend to be darker, so the beans contain less caffeine. But it's all about the extraction....
