Here is some history...
When the W:ET server started up, and such, there were many, many, MANY posts a day about trying to get a game started up. While there are quite a number of gaming UFies, there is at least an equal number of non-gaming UFies, and the persistant posts were clogging the board. It greated a GREAT deal of discussion. There was a large group wanting it banned from the main board over to a Diary, and an equaly emphatic group wanting it on the main board. As a "voluntary" measure, it was grouped into the W:ET bar, a way for the different perspectives to be able to co-exist. At the moment, we get one or two posts out of the W:ET bar, which most of the time are "politely" pointed at the bar, since, after all, that is where you'd expect interested UFies to be looking.
It was a similar thing about why the Ordinance Corner came into existence. Our many UFies who are skilled and interested in ordinances, mostly of the handheld kind, wanted to talk together about them. And, many of our UFies who are dreadfully against that sort of thing really disliked having a board they enjoyed "violated" by it. It was a very hot discussion. That's why the Ordinance Corner was formed, DR66 helping on that, so that some of the different sides of the issue can come up with a way to discuss and enjoy the perspectives of those that are common, but allow the board to be fully enjoyed by the diverse group of folks that are the Community of User Friendly.
Regarding you thought about the Karaoke Bar, the SOTM posts have been increasing a bit lately. However, neither are at the level that provoked the incredibly active ire that inspired the OC and W:ET Bar. If it continues to increase, then it is possible the community will need to examine it. Because the point isn't to restrict or constrict discussion, but figure out how the discussions can happen amongst those interested in the topic while not fully alienating our other brothers and sisters of the community who are also members of this forum.
