A good ol' fashioned Linux thread. by skippy-ish_guy 2007-08-08 13:35:35
Okay, so here's the setup for the flamewar situation I have:

Brand new PC with an FX-60 and 2 GB of RAM, 500 GB SATA HDD, etc., sitting under my desk not in use because I haven't got the $200 for an OEM copy of Windows XP Pro, but I want to see what the machine is capable of, and use it instead of this aging schizophrenic Win98 box (yes, this post is being typed in Windows 98 FE).

What various Linux flavours are good for what? I've used slackware before, but that's a little too... manual for my taste in OSes. I've heard good things about Ubuntu and all the variants on Ubuntu, but what about the other ones (are there other ones anymore?)?
