get it back and I don't say "nah, don't worry about it". I expect it back, but I'm financially prepared if it doesn't.
If a friend asks to borrow, or I make the offer, it is on the conditions set by the friend. If friend says, "I'll pay you back", then I wait quietly for that to happen. If friend later says, "Times are tough, can I pay you later?", I say yes, and listen if there is something that I can do to assist. If friend is later seen to be sailing hir new Catamaran, then I wave from the shore and walk away. I was the fool for judging character so poorly.
Of course this is easy for me to say, as I rarely loaned any money.
