Every single person in the collection business, be it full time or just when someone doesn't pay rent, is going to act like a jerk when they call. Ever get one of those "You're a day late paying X bill" letters? Same thing. They don't say, "Hey, you've paid every bill on time, you've never had a bounced check, maybe you just forgot to pay this one, so we're sending you a reminder." No, they always say, "YOU ARE LATE!! If you are just ONE DAY LATER than THIS, we're going to TURN EVERYTHING OFF, SHOOT YOUR DOG, BEAT YOUR GRANDMA, and probably SUE YOU FOR MILLIONS!!"
The idea is, if you're scared, you're going to mess up. You'll write a check to them, instead of someone else. The best way to take care of annoying bill collectors? Be happy. Laugh. They hate that. "Oh, did I give you the wrong number? Haha! I must have switched them, I'll bet my son is going to be surprised, he thought he was only getting $10 for his birthday! Hahaha. Don't worry about it.
