it would appear that more and more folks have their knickers in a bunch at the drop of a hat. And the threat posts show up all over now, not just in kid related threads. It also seems to involve more people though I haven't actually counted to confirm that.

Does it really make people feel better to bash their fellow UFie and/or blame the recipient for the bad behavior? Is it no longer allowed to have multiple viewpoints here? I'm pretty sure that most of us have MMV on just about any subject that comes up (See the emacs vs. vi and "which linux distro is the best" debates). Just because someone thinks/experiences something different doesn't mean either view/experience is invalid. Is July (and now August) just a low point in the ability to have a discussion without a flamewar or violence?
