A close IRL friend and I use the phrase "I need to stab you now" to express jealousy/disagreement/annoyance/etc. We both know that neither of us is ever actually going to stab the other, we're just joking around.

You can reach the same level of comfort with people you've known online for long enough.

I think when that kind of joking becomes not-OK is when the people involved aren't close friends, or if it's not 100% clear that the threat is a joke.
