it's not the first time I've seen an unproveable thesis that the "nature" of humanity has changed within historical time. If you want a really interesting read, try "The Origin of Consciousness In the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind". Read the book, don't settle for a Cliff's-Notes version. You can't prove the author is right...but you can't prove him wrong, either.
And Richard Dawkins claims there is proof that humans are being domesticated by civilization just as much as dogs, cats, and other animals have been. He cites the abilities to digest wheat and milk as evidence of a genetic change favored by culture, rather than "natural" forces. |
