So far I had seen The Village and Sixth Sense (and now I'm certainly going to try Unbreakable and Signs, too). So when saw the trailer for LitW in a cinema, I had to see it, too. Just didn't find the time. Well, until now :)
I had recently watched "Tom Yum Goong / Revenge of the Warrior", another martial arts flick with Panom JAA (better known as Tony JAA) from "Ong Bak" presenting Muay Thai, associated and other styles again. The stunts...! *whistles* In the end I left "Harsh Times" sitting in the store (been checking Christian Bale movies lately [The Machinist, Equilibrium, American Psycho, Batman Begins, Empire of the Sun {what? also Mio min Mio? just checked IMDB}, Reign of Fire]) and chose "Lady in the Water" instead. I do not regret it. Funny coincidence: Freddy Rodriguez appears in both, but I didn't know until the trailer.
All in all I can really recommend this movie. I'm not going to tell anything in order to not to ruin your expericence, maybe if I can convince myself to digitize my notes I'll post something on the board about it some day, but I don't know yet. For me it's a beautiful movie with a purpose that heightened my respect for this director even more. |
