Saving money on food? by jaqie2007-07-29 14:52:16
You got the fridge/freezer thing wrong by PSYCHOI3OY 2007-07-29 23:24:58
Refrigerators and freezers run more efficiently the fuller they are. Air absorbs heat very quickly and is exchanged every time you open the door. Water absorbs heat much more slowly. (Just think how long it takes to defrost stuff on the counter.)

Heck, I've used gallon jugs of water in the fridge as 'ballast' to keep the electric bill down. The more stuff in the fridge, the less warm air gets in when you open the door, and the less work the compressor has to do to suck the heat out.

Also, make sure the gaskets on the doors are clean and seal well, and make sure the feet on the bottom are adjusted to tilt the whole thing slightly back so the doors close solidly.
