What I abhor is sloppy violations of the laws of Physics. If you're going to postulate energy weapons in a space battle, I can ignore the coruscant beams for dramatic purposes...but please, no gravity-and-atmosphere fireballs, and remember that stuff which blows up does not simply evaporate and vanish; it leaves debris. Running through the fireball of the weapons platform that has just been hit by your side's unexpected ally at the end of the battle should not leave your ship unscathed when it's already been stated that you have no forward defenses left. (B5 tended to get more things right than usual, but that one just grated.)
