the HONDA BIG RED is a work machine by jaqie 2007-07-29 14:30:15
designed for field and conservation work. it can (barely) haul a couple full hayframe wagons. Thus it's 5 gears (plus reverse) are quite low. We had a seed/fertilizer broadcast spreader for it along with a miniature harrow, needle plow, and a few other implements. We used it for food plots mainly (miniature fields in the woods for food for wildlife).

However, since my dad had ground in the CRP (conservation reserve program, food plots for wild animals et al) we had a couple of them. I did work on them (as a kid) helping my dad, and then was allowed to drive them when no work was needing to be done. I made trails in the forest behind our house and drove in our fields/food plots/etc when they werent't planted.

Because of the low gearing, if you didnt have a load second gear was like most ATV's first, so I started in that. In fifth gear, it got up to 45 and could go on the highway as long as it had a slow moving vehicle sign on it and was being used for a farm use. I hauled stuff for us to the grain elevator in town (10 miles away) with a trailer that could fit our other big red in it many times. I personally put in around 10 hours of use on it a day on non-rainy days, about one third of that was work hours.

Despite being geared so low and definitely being built for farm work, it was very, very fun to drive it in our creek out back, and the trails I made in the forest, etc.
