How can I possibly make it clearer?
Sure, my point is a generality, and subject to all the niggling that generalities suffer from. But additional design goals don't change the fundamental purpose of the thing. Whether the design is to fit in a lady's purse and kill muggers, or to go on safari and kill elephants - the sole intention is clear.
**If it fails to be able to kill, then the whole design has failed.**
In contrast, a knife can kill, but is designed to cut. Some knives are designed to kill, but the majority are designed for more practical reasons. Even those designed to kill have other intended *purposes* - skinning, gutting, stuff like that. |
