...to get the gist of things, and yet different enough to make for some interesting misinterpretations. Here's what I had come up with (having had 1 year of German in high school and failing miserably at that):

A storm is brewing
and night is falling

Where do you want to go(?)/Where will you go(?)
all alone like that
where from do you float(?)/Where does it drive you from(?)

Who holds your hand
when it pulls you under

Now you stand there at the dock/quay(?)
with tears on your face
daylight fades(?)
the autumn wind wipes/empties the street

Now you stand there at the dock/quay(?)
you have tears on your face
evening light chases the treasures(??) away
time stands still and autumn is coming

Come into my boat
Jealousy will be
the helmsman

Come into my boat
for I'm obviously the best seaman

Now you stand there at the dock/quay(?)
you have tears on your face
take the fire from the candle
time stands still and autumn is coming
