And a plan on a yearly basis is a bit much for our 4 week stay, especially since we will be using that phone for 5 to 20 minutes per day tops.

Additionally, all three of us have rather good phones that will work with the US frequencies as well as the European, and it would be a shame to just dump that phone after 4 weeks since we don't plan to take it back with us.
