Needed: Consumer router with outgoing packetfilter by Qcumber-some2007-07-29 07:22:54
...I've never seen a PNB with outgoing filter. by themadkansan2007-07-29 07:32:23
Any, except Ports 20,21,80,3128 TCP? by Qcumber-some2007-07-29 08:03:50
Considered using a Linux box? by werehatrack 2007-07-29 08:44:50
I've been told that this provides more filtering options (such as via the use of local routes) than any other. One way that outbound total blockage to an IP range can be achieved is by using an internal local route for those, pointed to a bitbucket. I do this with the worst of the 404 hijackers habitually, and I'm about to do it to the tracking disservices.

Some Linksys routers *are* Linux boxen of a sort. Some versions of the WRT54GS in particular. The wireless function can be turned off.

You may need port 8080, btw, but experience can be your guide.

(I've implemented much of what you're looking for using an older Netgear; there was a security problem due to some household infatuation with Kazaa for a while, and I had to clamp off all but a handful of ports.)

Aye. 2 NICs (or 2 VLANs) + Linux (or *BSD) = good. by bwkaz2007-07-29 09:02:59
