And politicians want Power at any cost. The dangerous part comes when power junkies start to use all this information in unauthorized ways: The same info that may stop a terrorist plot can be used to rig an election, extort money, or even cover-up a terrorist plot! Eventually, the mountain of details collected by governments will become the data equivalent of atomic bombs; and we all know how the invention of the Last version of that almost led the world down the path to destruction.
