calling OCR hackers by dennismv2007-07-27 15:54:16
How 'bout the picture quality... by jdelphiki 2007-07-27 16:39:50
In order to pull accurate OCR results from pictures, you have to use some insanely high resolution or it won't be as accurate as you'd like.

Also, with OCR, depending on the program you're using, there might be a "learning" process for the software to get used to what's expected. Does your software have a way of helping it idendify differences?

More random thoughts...

- Is there any way you can tweak the picture contrast in order to more clearly demark the lines between the characters and the background?

- Can you run several samples of the same image and compare the results? Take the most common characters selected out of the collected sample and see if that improves your accuracy. At the very least, that would let you teach the software what to do.

More later...gotta run.
