The repercussions are a whole other matter... by leistico 2007-07-27 12:10:10
...one which a battery of psychologists, theologians and philosophers could debate upon ad nauseaum.

The whole point of self-defense is stopping the force being used against you. There are those who would continue their force until rendered completely inert. If you have time to accurately measure and gauge the exact amount of force necessary to repel an assault, you have time to get the h4 out of the way. If you're forced to act, you have to act until the threat is neutralized.

Cops are taught to shoot "center-mass"--the broadest point, the middle of the target area, in order to stop an attacker. Selectivity in target area and moving-target accuracy of the degree necessary to "shoot to wound" is patently unreasonable to ask of someone in a self-defense situation, Hollywood notwithstanding.

If it's gotta be done, it's gotta be done, and if you're torn up on the inside by your actions later, you're alive to be torn up, and to heal and to learn.
