You're just focusing on one influence exclusively.
The only way a gun could not influence would be if the person knew nothing about it at all. As in, did not know what it was, what it could do, etc.
If one inanimate object can influence people, so can others. If a movie can influence people, so can a gun. so can a car. Certainly the *degrees* to which each can influence can be different -- a movie may influence someone a great deal more than a gun, but to say a gun *cannot* influence someone is preposterous.
