TFS Magnum reports:
BBC NEWS | UK | Violent crime figures rise by 12% The British Home Office loves the British Crime Survey. But not everyone feels it is the most accurate picture of what is going on in the UK. [Shadow home secretary David] Davis told BBC News the [British Crime Survey or] BCS did not record "various categories of violent crime", including murder and rape, retail crime, drug taking, or offences in which the victims were aged below 16.
Seems like a lot things are missing from the BCS. Maybe the Brits aren't worried about any of those crimes.
The 2 methods of tabulating crime, the BCS and actual police reports, give a very different view of what is happening in Britain. While the BCS suggested violent crime had fallen by 3%, police records of violent crime increased by 12%.
But never fear, the change - according to the Home Office - is all brought on by reporting changes, and the publics' new-found willingness to report crime. Right.
This comes after the EU found Britain to be a high-crime society. BBC NEWS | UK | UK a high crime country - survey:The UK is a 'high crime country' with a very high risk of common crime, a European Union (EU) survey suggests.
Now I have to point out that the BBC is not part of the British version of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, so I don't think any of this is overstated. |
