Buying the latest gave you license to install any previous version. I remember using it to acquire O/S2 v2.21 by buying v3.something. But M$ deliberately and pointedly does not allow this. They really want to force everyone to use Vista, whether they like it or not. Except, of course, for their corporate customers who get whatever they want - at a price.
