| Short question before I leave |

So, I'm "back" from a short holiday, and I skip through the last week of comics.
I "fall" upon a TLP titled "HP7 Spoilers", with a <m0derated> label, and a VERY long thread under it.
So someone thought it funny to write "Attention , spoiler" and line up some so-called "facts" from a book that ... wasn't for sale -yet- or just left the stores that day.
Apart from the usual "what's wrong with Hewlet Packard" ... OH NO, it's the launch of the english version of a childrens' fiction book" , I was thinking: WHY ?
WHY is it frowned upon to post "little extracts" from what you've read ?
WHY is it frowned upon when these "facts" are totally made-up ?
And ... WHY is it, suddenly, OK to post that type of "spoilers" two months later, maybe some week before the french / german / pôlish / spanish "versions" hit the book stores OUTSIDE UK-US territory ?
IF these spoilers hurt the readers of the english edition, what will they do to those who "have to wait some months" still?
It's marketed as a childrens' book, and around the world many "children" don't speak / read more than a very few languages. But if that "second language" happens to be english, they too will see the spoilers, as the spolers are certainly in colloquial language, while the english book itself may be "finer english" and still way out of their skills.
So yes: WHY is it bad to post "spoilers" ? After a short time, they will make "a great book resume" for those who don't have the (whatever) to read 500 pages.
And IF it's bad to post them, why isn't it bad any more "after the book was launched" ?
It sooo much looks like an editors marketing scheme. And we don't like the marketeers too much, do we? |
