This is not about ownership (by German law, I retain ownership of the work all my life) as much as attribution, and to prevent others from claiming my work as their own.
It makes sure, that there will always be a (c) by CynicalRyan, @year, and not, suddenly a (c) by Rip Off, Inc., @year. It is about protecting my name and its association more than control over my works. I cannot tell somebody who bought a book what to do with it, but that is only limited to the physical representation. And even then, the "owner" can create a new work out of it, under the rule that it has to be creative enough. |
