If the tests are right it means that Vino had a transfusion sometime in a space of few days or so before he was tested. Similarly, EPO's effect of increasing red-cell density only lasts as long as the cells themselves.

If Rasmussen missed a test in the week before the tour, then his blood would not have been checked. But, the tests he's had in the last week would have picked up an abnormally high haematocrit.

I'm not arguing with an expert though. I just want to understand what's going on.
