I've sat in a Matrix. I fit. Teh car is definitely a base model though.
Yaris is a squeeze. Probably a no.
Just got back from a VW showroom. The City Golf is what I would get, and it prices out the same as a Matrix, and embarrasses the toyota with the extras I would get for the same price. Power windows, power locks, heated seats, air-con, cruise, heated wiper-fluid dispensers, MP3-CD player, none of which the Matrix has for that price. Bask seat room isn't so hot though, but I doubt any 6'5" people (like me) will be riding back there anyways no matter what I get!
Going to try the Fit and Civic this afternoon. Will be eyeing the Hyundai Accent hatchback later this week or next week.
Probably a no on the Mini. Jetta is too expensive. Only TDI they say I can get in Canada right now is the Jetta, which starts at $32000 according to the dealer.
Subaru - maybe.
