I don't believe, though, that there's a WEP implementation problem --- I just went through this hassle when my old linksys pcmcia card died (it would work only after inserting/removing it about 45 times...) I replaced with another similar, but slightly different chipset, model and had a bit of a run around to get the right drivers loaded and recognized (probably partly my fault).

Configuring ESSID, WEP, etc was pretty much a piece of cake using YaST's network hardware and config options (opensuse 10.1). One piece of advice is that the ESSID is case sensitive...
