| Win XP help needed - removing USB device |

The story so far:
I recently got a new(er) computer at $workplace that has only USB connectors - no PS/2 style keyboard or mouse connectors. My keyboard (a Northgate OmniKey/Ultra) has only a PS/2 connector. I went to the computer store and bought a keyboard/mouse PS/2-to-USB Y adapter cable, plugged it in, plugged the keyboard into it - voila! Everything works well.
More recently, I decided that I wanted to install Motorola Phone Tools, so that I could sync my mobile phone with the computer. On the next reboot after that, the keyboard stopped working in Windows. Other USB-only keyboards continue to work just fine, however. I'd really like to get my old keyboard back, though.
What I've tried so far:
1. removed Motorola Phone Tools
2. manually went through registry and removed all traces of the USB drivers from the registry.
3. deleted left-over Motorolla USB drivers from hard disk.
4. gone into device manager and rolled back the USB hub drivers to the prior version.
No joy.
I'm looking for ideas of what to try next. Has anyone been through this before? |
