Linux is superior. Or not. by CynicalRyan2007-07-25 10:29:23

Linux is to blame. by CynicalRyan2007-07-25 10:46:34
Are you positively sure that that's it? by FST777 2007-07-25 10:54:27
I highly doubt it. If it is, I'm sure a patch will fix it, and it isn't a pain in the backside to install those, now is it?

If it is indeed the WEP implementation openSUSE uses, these stories should be heard more often. What you tell is nothing more than anecdotal evidence, and it is highly unlikely that the same applies to other cards and drivers. If my suspicions are correct, it still is a matter of drivers not communicating correctly with the hardware.

To prove you wrong on the Linux-vs-Windows debate: I recently installed a wireless network at my parents in law, using a brand new Acer notebook with Vista installed. I couldn't get WEP to work one way or the other, so it's now WPA2-encrypted. So, Windows is less superior.

Won't fly, won't it? Still, my anecdote is as true as yours.

Besides all this, it is a bit of a corner to cut to name Linux less superior because something doesn't work correctly. I can name a myriad of points where Linux performs better than Windows and the fact of the matter is that there is more to be done for an OS than just getting WEP to work over a crappy driver to a crappy card.
